Fictional portfolio brand · Hands-on WordPress SEO implementation
UrbanLeaf is a fictional indoor-plant brand created to demonstrate a practical, evidence-led SEO workflow. The project combines content strategy, on-page SEO, internal linking, technical QA, answer-focused content, authoritative sourcing, and measurement setup. No products were sold, no outreach was launched, and no rankings, traffic growth, conversions, or backlinks are claimed.
Overview
I planned and implemented a five-page search-intent content cluster in WordPress, supported by an UrbanLeaf hub. The UrbanLeaf hub links to the published content cluster. The work helps users choose indoor plants by environment, pet-safety needs, room placement, and care problems.
Challenge
Indoor-plant searches often overlap: users may compare general options, look for plants for low-light rooms, check pet safety, choose by room, or diagnose care problems. The challenge was to give each page a distinct purpose while connecting the cluster so users and search engines can understand the relationships.
Research
The strategy used keyword and content-cluster research, competitor/content-gap review, search-intent analysis, and authoritative source verification. Backlink opportunities were researched only; no outreach was performed and no links were claimed. Authenticated SEMrush and Ahrefs implementation evidence was unavailable and is not claimed. Screaming Frog remained blocked by the environment and was not implemented for this phase.
Keyword & Content Strategy
- Best Indoor Plants for Your Home — broad selection intent
- Best Low-Light Indoor Plants — environmental-constraint intent
- Best Pet-Friendly Indoor Plants — pet-safety intent
- Indoor Plant Care Guide — maintenance and diagnostic intent
- Best Indoor Plants by Room — placement intent
The hub provides a clear route into all five destinations. Contextual links between guides support related decisions without treating every topic as interchangeable.
Content Architecture
Each guide uses one clear primary topic, scannable headings, comparison tables, direct-answer passages, and contextual links. Implemented decision structures include a six-factor plant-selection framework, a definition of low light with window and distance caveats, a room-placement framework, and a symptom-led plant-care diagnostic.
On-Page SEO
The implementation includes page-specific SEO titles and meta descriptions, structured H1/H2/H3 hierarchies, descriptive internal links, stable section IDs, descriptive image alternative text, and source-linked claims. These title and description implementations are retained as textual evidence unless a genuine visual capture is available.
Technical SEO
Phase 2 corrections repaired three internal links that pointed to the wrong room-guide path, replaced a malformed Cast Iron Plant target with #6-cast-iron-plant, removed duplicate IDs associated with that target, and cleaned tracking parameters from nine authoritative reference links while preserving their canonical destinations.
- Incorrect room-guide links: 3 → 0
- Malformed Cast Iron Plant target occurrences: 8 → 0
- Valid target:
#6-cast-iron-plant - Tracked authoritative-reference links: 9 → 0
AEO & GEO-Oriented Implementation
The content uses concise direct answers, comparison tables, explicit entity names, verified scientific names, and claim-level citations. Trust signals include visible authorship, a fictional-project disclosure, cited horticultural and pet-safety sources, and a visible review date of September 14, 2026. These practices improve clarity and source transparency; they do not guarantee rankings, AI citations, rich results, or other search enhancements.
The pet-safe and lower-light comparison includes only three source-reconciled plants:
- Cast Iron Plant — Aspidistra elatior
- Parlor Palm — Chamaedorea elegans
- Spider Plant — Chlorophytum comosum
Prayer Plant was excluded because its identity could not be confidently reconciled with the intended ASPCA record. No substitute plant was added.
Measurement
Measurement evidence is presented as dated observation, not as growth or performance improvement:
- Google Search Console: Best Indoor Plants and Low-Light Indoor Plants were indexed; the UrbanLeaf hub was observed as “Discovered – currently not indexed.”
- Sitemap, September 10, 2026: successfully read with 21 discovered pages. “Discovered” does not mean “indexed.”
- GSC performance, August 28–September 10, 2026: early observational search data only.
- GA4: early, sparse UrbanLeaf page-view observations only.
- PageSpeed, September 12, 2026: mobile 83 Performance / 95 Accessibility / 100 Best Practices / 100 SEO; desktop 99 / 95 / 100 / 100.
- Schema.org hub validation: 0 errors, 0 warnings, 6 detected items. Validation does not guarantee a search enhancement.
Implementation and Observational Evidence
Current live-page evidence demonstrates the five-destination content hub, selection and placement frameworks, the verified pet-safe/lower-light comparison, the plant-care diagnostic, and visible authorship/disclosure.
Strategic Recommendations
Future work could include monitoring indexing, gathering longer-term query and engagement data, addressing PageSpeed opportunities only where justified, and considering outreach based on the completed backlink research. These are recommendations, not completed outcomes.
